Elijah what's going on?!

My male Platy Elijah seems to be pregnant.  Yes, my male Platy looks pregnant! His belly is squaring off, just like a female before she gives birth.  The black line is where his belly normally is, and the green one is where it is now (His fins looked like part of his belly in this picture).  This wasn't the best picture I've taken of him, but I took the picture before I fed them, so they were going crazy.
Weird, huh?  That's what I thought! I've heard of females "turning into" males (being "late-bloomers" so it was hard to tell whether it was male or female), but never a male turning into a female! Well, I'm going to fast them tomorrow, since I somehow forgot today, and maybe that'll help.  I already fed them peas in case it was SBD.

I should be getting more baby Platys soon! Java is gone again, but I'm going to try to find him again, we'll see how that goes.  Other than that all is well with my fish!

  1. Hmmm that is strange! Hey I see under your comment thing it says bettas need at least 3.5 gallons of water, filter, heater, lights, etc. Aren't betta fish the ones that so many people keep in a tiny little cup with a plant on the top? I've always wondered about that!

  2. Yes it is! I faster them for one day, and he is smaller now.

Yes, Bettas are the ones most people keep in little cups, or vases sometimes!

Filters help keep Ammonia from building up in the water, if there's too much Ammonia then it poisons the fish. However most fish can adapt to this conditions, which is why some people with
Bettas in these conditions keep their fish for so long.

Bettas are Siamese fighting fish, which tells you a lot about them if you think about it. They're tropical fish, and they're aggressive. Tropical means heaters, and of course fish need lights just like humans, and wouldn't you want to be able to see your little fish with a nice tank light?

Quick facts:
Bettas need at LEAST 3.5 Gallons of water, a filter, a heater, lights, and a thermometer!
Fish are not as easy to keep as most people think.
Guppies are also called "Millions Fish" because they have so many babies!
Bettas, and some other fish have an organ called the "Labyrinth" which allows them to breathe air.

What do you think about that?
