So now I have a question:
If you could choose how the world
was going to end, how would
it happen? And when?
My answer is: It would an outbreak of a illness that nobody has ever seen before.
The illness will turn certain people into zombies. The rest of the people would have to find out how to destroy this illness, because it's contagious, even if it means finding, and killing, the infected people.
The Disease can only be transferred by the bite, or scratch, of a zombie. You can (obviously) only kill a zombie by destroying it's brain. You must do that without getting bitten, or scratched.
It will happen within the next 10 years. Good luck.
I will be looking foward to reading what you say! And remember you can't say you don't want the world to end. If the world as we know it HAS TO END, and you get to choose how, how would you want it to end?
I'll put up a page about your choices later, so make sure I get a lot of disasterous endings to put on the page!
I'm going to assume your question really is about how I would choose to have "civilization" end, and not "the world", because even if all of the people are infected by some illness, the "world" would still be here.
ReplyDeleteSo, in answer, if I could control things, I would vote for the end of cheap energy as what ends our civilization. Slowly, and gradually, we'd be producing less and less food, which would result in a natural (and gradual) drawing down of our world population (rather than a mass die-off) to a size that could be sustained with small-space gardening techniques and hunting and gathering (much like indigenous populations that peopled the Americas prior to the European invasion).
I know, not as exciting as a Zombie Apocalypse with heroes like Tallahassee, but more humane, perhaps.
I would prefer for some sort of infection would set in that would simply kill people in their sleep. I do not want any one to suffer. With any infection, it seems like there are people who are resistant, so there would be some people left. Those people, I hope, would be smart enough to keep from amking the same mistakes we have made as a global community. Perhaps, we coul go back to living in concert with the planet.
ReplyDeleteAs a child this question was frequently pondered. Looking up into the sky at night, it was easy to consider the earth being smashed by an asteroid, with predictable chaotic results. Now as an adult, it is easy to see that water and food could became scarce and a disease of some untreatable strain could easily evolve, Combine those possible realities with the presence of plentiful nuclear weapons and unstable governments and there exists many variations on the apocalyptic possibilities. The truth of this is too much for many people to ponder. Fear often paralyzes animals into immobility. Our mammalian ancestry is hardwired into our brains, too. instead of identifying real or potential problems and creating solutions, most humans will ignore or deny they exist. If the average person in this country watches more than 5 hours of TV a day, that does not leave much time for thinking, relating , having fun or solving problems. I will appreciate the day even more knowing it could be my last! Thank you for the opportunity to blog, a new experience for me.
ReplyDeleteI wish it would be a HAPPY ending... suddenly everything would make sense, the answers to all life's mysteries are revealed... and even though this world ends, we would somehow keep on living in a better world. Like, a fresh new planet, where we could start completely over and not repeat the mistakes we made with this planet. For instance... we would not cut down so many trees or kill so many animals this time around!
